Exotic Fruits of Thailand - Banana

  • Common name : Banana
  • Thai name : Glooway
  • Scientific name : Musa sapientum L.

Varieties

Glooway-hawm

  • Weight : approximately 150 gms./fruit, thick skin
  • Color : bright yellow when it is ripe, the flesh is white
  • Taste : sweet and fragrant

Glooway-kai ( golden banana )

  • Weight : approximately 50 gms./fruit, thin skin
  • Color : golden yellow when it is ripe, the flesh is yellowish white
  • Taste : pungent sweet with appetizing fragrance

Glooway-nahm-wah

  • Weight : approximately 100 gms./fruit, the skin is moderate thickness
  • Color : smokey yellow when it is ripe, the sticky flesh is white
  • Taste : sweet

Nutritional value : High carbohydrate and Vitamin A, calcium and phosphorus

Fruiting season : All year for Glooway-hawm and Glooway-nahm-wah, but Glooway-kai is available during August - November

Uses : Eating fresh

Storage : Keep the fresh fruit at room temperature ( 25-30 celcius degree ), it can be kept for 3-4 days.
